September is National Suicide Prevention Month. This webinar will provide suicide awareness and prevention training from a mental health professional with an approach that’s relevant to people living in rural communities.
THERE’S A MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY IN RURAL AMERICA:
According to the latest research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide rates among people living in rural areas are 64% to 68% higher compared to people living in large urban areas.
Farmers and ranchers are nearly twice as likely to die by suicide compared to other occupations.
Youth living in rural areas are at higher risk of suicide compared to those living in urban areas.
Suicide rates are growing at a faster pace among rural youth, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
To help confront the rural mental health emergency, this webinar will provide suicide awareness and prevention training from Becky Wiseman, LCSW-R, a mental health professional with an approach that’s relevant to people living in rural communities.
WEBINAR ATTENDEES WILL LEARN ABOUT:
What causes people to consider suicide, as well as health, historical, and environmental factors that put individuals at risk.
Protective factors that lower suicide risk, and strategies for managing mental health and being proactive about self-care.
Guidance on warning signs and behaviors to look for, and how to get help for someone in a suicidal crisis.
PRESENTER: Becky Wiseman, LSCW-R, NY FarmNet Family Consultant Case Supervisor
MODERATOR: Julie Lux, Rural Minds VP, Communications
